New international rule

Starting September 2020, bodywires will require clear plugs for fencers attending FIE tournaments.

The rule regarding bodywires was recently modified.

m.29.1b This bodywire has a connecting plug which must be made of a transparent material at each end. In the absence of a security device being fitted to the weapon, a security device must be fitted to the plug of the bodywire.

This new implementation of the regulations will be enforced according to the following criteria:

  • For the Junior and Cadets: 2020 Junior and Cadet World Championships (the bodywires with transparent plugs will be provided by the FIE).
  • For the seniors: Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo (the bodywires with transparent plugs will be provided by the FIE).
  • For all fencers and FIE competitions: compulsory from the start of the 2020-2021 season.
