Important note: Due to supply issues, we have been getting these blades from multiple sources. The blades you receive may be printed with an Allstar logo or an Imex logo. All of our BF blades come wired with Allstar points.
BF only sells to distributors and not to individuals. At the factory, they engrave each blade with the logo of the distributor who has ordered them. Rest assured that regardless of the logo, all of these blades are Made in France in the same BF factory, and are identical in every way.
The BF White blade is the ideal choice for advanced athletes and those aiming to compete on the international stage. As Allstar’s entry-level FIE blade, it stands out with exceptional stiffness, superior durability, and outstanding balance.
While slightly heavier than some alternatives, its high-grade alloy offers excellent resistance to rust, ensuring long-lasting performance. It's also one of the best options for a first FIE blade, thanks to its unbeatable combination of quality, price, and durability in its class. It is the preferred blade of most of the world-ranked athletes.

The best Made in France quality
Still today, BF blades are handcrafted in France the same way they have been since 1885. Family-owned from the start, BF produces some of the best blades in the world.
The FIE certification
Fencing blades can be divided into two categories: FIE blades and non-FIE blades. An FIE blade is certified by the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and is required for use in international competitions. These blades are made from maraging steel, which significantly increases their durability and reduces the risk of breakage, as they are more likely to bend than snap. Additionally, most FIE blades are lighter and are available in various stiffness levels to suit different fencing styles.
Blade Length
A shorter blade will be lighter and better balanced, but a longer blade will provide better reach.
Some clubs and provincial federations require shorter blades for different age groups. For club requirements, please ask your coach. For rules enforced in tournaments, you can refer to our article on Rules for Equipment.
Blades lengths are identified by a number between 0 and 5. The standard size for teenagers and adults is a size 5 blade. As a general rule of thumb, starting from the length of a standard size 5 blade, every time you go down one size, one inch is subtracted from the length of the blade. For example, a size 2 blade is approximately three inches shorter than a size 5 blade.
Blades stiffness
Some blades are available in different stiffness levels: soft, medium, and hard.
- Hard blades offer excellent precision and are ideal for strong actions, such as parries or beat attacks.
- Soft blades are less likely to break when bent and are well suited for fencers who use flick hits.
- Medium blades provide a good balance between flexibility and precision, they are both responsive and durable.
Please note that each blade is unique, and stiffness can vary from one brand to another, even if the labeled category is the same. To help you, we have measured the precise stiffness of each blade in the "Specifications" section of the product page.
Durability
Even if a blade is described as durable, this does not guarantee it won’t break quickly. Some blades are better suited to specific fencing styles. If a blade doesn’t match your way of fencing, it may wear out or break more quickly.
A blade’s lifespan depends on many factors: frequency of use, intensity of training, fencer’s level, training conditions, and more. As a result, it is not possible to guarantee a precise lifespan.
Finally, a combination of accidental factors can sometimes cause a blade to break very early, even after only a few uses. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely eliminate this risk.
